District Architecture Center 421 7th Street NW Washington, DC 20004
Open to the public. Brown-bag lunch.
Traditional Architecture has a timeless quality. A building must not only suit its function, it must also suit its symbolic importance in the community and the context in which it finds itself. So, just as the founders of the Republic used Greek and Roman Revival Architecture to convey the values of the new Republic, today’s architects use traditional architectural styles to fit a building politely in its surroundings and to convey the values of the occupants. Stephen Vanze, FAIA, of Barnes Vanze Architects will talk about elements of traditional styles and how they are used in good design.
The 25 Architects series intends to educate the public about good design in an urban or suburban context. Award-winning members of the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects show effective strategies for home design and remodeling projects. Interactive sessions include time for questions and answers.
The 25 Architects series is presented by the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Washington Architectural Foundation. Open to the public. Brown-bag lunch. For more information, please email Beth Judy at bjudy@wafonline.org or call 202.347.9403.
